Enrollment in the SEEC program is based upon an annual random number drawing lottery process that includes consideration of factors such as parents’ place of employment, child’s birth date, and sibling status. Smithsonian employees get priority for all open spaces at SEEC. Each March, enrollment is determined for the upcoming fall through the lottery process. If a vacancy occurs during the year, a child will be selected from the remaining applicants according to the same lottery results, but always giving priority to Smithsonian staff members.
All applications should be returned to SEEC along with the application fee (based on a sliding scale). The application fee is based on a sliding scale ($15 – $50). A nominal fee is charged to reapply each year. Application DOES NOT guarantee enrollment.
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY MARCH 1st each year to be included in the lottery, for all ages, including infants.
Kindergarten Admissions: Applications for SEEC’s Kindergarten will be accepted beginning December 1 through the March 1 lottery deadline.
- All applicants must submit a SEEC Kindergarten Registration Application between December 1, 2018 and March 1, 2019 to be eligible for enrollment. A $75 application fee is required. Applicants received after March 1st will be considered as space is available.
- Offers for space in the Kindergarten will be extended following the lottery in March. Parent responses are due by March 15th. A non-refundable deposit of $500 will be due by March 15th to guarantee a child’s enrollment. A second non-refundable deposit of $500 will be due by June 1st for all children except those currently enrolled in SEEC. Currently enrolled families at SEEC will have their current student deposit held to cover the second half of the deposit.
